The Walsh Band is an amazing experience for middle school students. My son had never played a musical instrument prior to joining the Walsh Band, with the exception of the recorder required in elementary school. The teachers were amazing and taught him the skills needed to read music and play an instrument. My son has made lasting friends and loved his middle school experience due in part to belonging to the band.

My favorite part of band is the way that everyone feels like family. Everyone is so kind and friendly! Band is definitely a big commitment but it is so worth it in the end. There have been so many scientific studies that link musical abilities to educational success. Even if you don't end up enjoying band (which is highly unlikely) you can at least say you meet new people and learned a new skill.

You can choose what instrument you want to play, Trombone, Trumpet, French Horn and so many more. If you don’t sign up for band you would miss out on a lot of really cool stuff.

My favorite thing about band has been getting to meet some really talented, nice, genuine people that love to make music. I definitely would encourage you to sign up for band. It’s so fun each and every day to get together with a group of people who you can talk to about key signatures and how excited you are about the new piece of music you’re playing. Those are things that you can only talk about with your classmates in band and not everyone can do that, so it’s pretty cool if you learn to play an instrument. Something you need to know about the Walsh Band program is that hard work pays off. If you want to have fun and be good at your playing your instrument you must work hard. The better you are at playing your instrument, the more fun it becomes. Most importantly never ever forget to have fun! Play your instrument because you're passionate about it! Don't ever stop playing because you think you’re not good enough, or because you don't make it into honor band. Play your instrument because you love it.
